Work in Progress: Casa Vicens

Barcelona's Casa Vicens, a unique oasis of calm with an Oriental and Moorish flavour, stands in the peaceful neighbourhood of Gràcia. The building is covered with spectacular green and white tiles and was Gaudí's first major commission. Undergoing a major restoration, it'll open to the public 2016. For a look behind the scenes:

New in our Network: Le Corbusier’s Cabanon!

Le Corbusier designed this simple wooden structure on the Cote d'Azur as a place to sleep and work in the summer months (cabanon means cabin). He spent every summer here from 1952 until his death in 1965, when he died from a heart attack swimming in the sea at Cap-Martin. The design is a miracle of compactness.

La Ricarda Special

Designed by architect Antonio Bonet Castellana, La Ricarda, is an emblematic example of rationalist architecture in Catalonia. It is located in the middle of a pine grove by the sea near Barcelona. The children who grew up in the house are now guiding visitors around. An extensive slideshow is added to our Specials section.
