Keeping it Modern Grant for Villa E-1027
Villa E-1.027 is among the nine grantees this year of the Getty Foundation's Keeping It Modern initiative. The Getty Foundation announced $1.3 million in architectural conservation grants for exemplary 20th century buildings. Since its inception in 2014, the initiative has supported 33 projects that serve as models for the conservation of modern architecture around the world.
Welcome Dorich House!
Dorich House Museum is the former studio home of the internationally acclaimed Russian sculptor Dora Gordine. She designed the house in 1935/6. It was her home and workplace until her death in 1991. Located in south west London, the house incorporates two studios, a gallery and top floor apartment with a stunning roof terrace overlooking Richmond Park.
Jim Cuno meets Harry Gesner – Q&A now online
Architect Harry Gesner was Guest of Honor at our recent conference at the Getty Center. A Q&A is now online between Jim Cuno, President and CEO of the J.Paul Getty Trust and Harry Gesner at the Trustee House that he designed as Scantlin House in 1965. Gesner is still working today and represents one of the most glamorous stories of the schismatic strain of Modernism that has quietly studded the state of California.

The Slovenian architect Jože Plečnik left a significant mark on three European capital cities: Vienna and Prague, and especially his native city of Ljubljana. He worked there from 1921 until he died in 1957. Ana Porok, Curator of Architecture and Design of the Plečnik Collection, gives us an intimate look into his recently restored house.

‘Philosophy is better promoted through space than through a philosophical book,’ Oskar Hansen used to say. This remark by the Polish architect, artist and theorist seems to be the best available summary of his own summerhouse in Szumin. An unobtrusive wooden house with a pitched roof became the incarnation of Open Form, the theory with which Oskar and Zofia Hansen tried to revolutionize the building industry of socialist Poland.
