Artists at Home - Bac & Bilek
Our membership currently numbers 150 iconic homes spread across 25 countries - together forming an inspiring picture of the global architectural heritage of the 20th century. Some also constitute a fascinating aspect of modern art history. Take Ferdinand Bac's Les Colombières in Menton, or Villa Bilek in Prague. Artists' homes and studios like these are unique spaces which offer fascinating insights into how their former owners lived, and how they created their artworks. That's why we are currently focusing on increasing their representation in our membership.
Welcome Wall House #2, a John Hejduk gem
With its abundance of forms, colours, intriguing details, symbols and meanings, Wall House #2 has to be experienced to be believed. A prime example of the architecture of the 1980s and 1990s, it reflects a time when the city of Groningen played a key role in The Netherlands in showcasing international Postmodern architecture. Architect John Hejduk designed the home in 1973 originally, but it remained unbuilt until 2001 - shortly after he had passed away.
Meet our Friends - architect Nanne de Ru
A warm welcome to Nanne de Ru of Powerhouse Company who joins us as a Friend! Since its first commission (a villa named Villa 1), Powerhouse Company has designed and built a number of fascinating private houses. In an interview, De Ru - an avid visitor of iconic homes - explains why he considers villas one of the most interesting design commissions for an architect. He also tells us that all exceptional houses are commissioned by exceptional clients.
More to Explore - Villa Tugendhat Special
