Design Academy Eindhoven en het Van Abbemuseum tonen een baanbrekende onderzoekstentoonstelling tijdens de Dutch Design Week 2019.
Van satellietbegraafplaatsen tot dead stock en de Great Pacific Garbage Patch, GEO—DESIGN: Junk verkent wereldwijde systemen voor afgedankte dingen. De tentoonstelling, geproduceerd in samenwerking met het Van Abbemuseum, toont achttien projecten van alumni van Design Academy Eindhoven. Negen projecten worden getoond in het Van Abbemuseum en negen projecten worden getoond op verschillende (winkel)locaties in het centrum van Eindhoven: Rambam, HEMA, ING Bank, de Bijenkorf, Sissy-Boy, Hutspot, Vielgut, Deense Kroon en Tigerlily.
GEO—DESIGN: Junk is het nieuwste hoofdstuk binnen het GEO—DESIGN tentoonstellingsplatform dat in 2018 door Design Academy Eindhoven is geïnitieerd. Het doel is bij te dragen aan de ontwikkeling van jonge ontwerpers die mondiale problemen centraal stellen in hun ontwerppraktijk. Tegelijkertijd onderzoekt en verkent GEO—DESIGN op een innovatieve manier de kaders die worden bepaald voor hedendaagse ontwerpers door sociale, economische en geopolitieke krachten. Inmiddels is het platform uitgegroeid tot een tentoonstellingsserie die de noodzakelijke ruimte biedt om dit experimentele, ontwerpende onderzoek te tonen.

GEO—DESIGN: Junk in het Van Abbemuseum loopt van 19 oktober t/m 17 november 2019. Op locatie in de binnenstad is de tentoonstelling alleen te zien tijdens de Dutch Design Week, van 19 oktober t/m 27 oktober 2019. Tijdens de Dutch Design Week kan GEO—DESIGN: Junk in het Van Abbemuseum alleen worden bezocht op vertoon van een DDW passe-partout (museumkaart niet geldig). DDW passe-partout is in het museum verkrijgbaar. Het museum hanteert tijdens de DDW aangepaste openingstijden en is dagelijks geopend van 11 tot 18 uur, ook op maandag.

design-research exhibition on waste for Dutch Design Week.
From satellite graveyards to dead stock via the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, GEO—DESIGN: Junk explores global systems of discarded things. This city-wide exhibition, produced in collaboration with the Van Abbemuseum, showcases eighteen thought-provoking projects by Design Academy Eindhoven alumni. Nine projects will be shown in the Van Abbemuseum and nine projects will be shown at various locations throughout the city centre: Rambam, HEMA, ING Bank, de Bijenkorf, Sissy-Boy, Hutspot, Vielgut, Deense Kroon and Tigerlily.
GEO—DESIGN: Junk is the latest product of the GEO—DESIGN exhibition platform launched by Design Academy Eindhoven in 2018 to develop the work of young designers that place global issues at the heart of their practice. GEO—DESIGN explores the social, economic, territorial, and geopolitical forces shaping design today. It generates original research into complex contemporary systems in the form of design explorations and investigations. It has transformed the annual exhibition of the Academy’s alumni work – produced in collaboration with the Van Abbemuseum of modern art in Eindhoven – to create an exhibition series that provides an urgently needed space for showcasing experimental approaches to design research.

GEO—DESIGN: Junk on location in the city center is only on show during the Dutch Design Week, from October 19 to October 27, 2019. During the Dutch Design Week, GEO—DESIGN: Junk can only be visited at the Van Abbemuseum on presentation of a DDW passe-partout (Museumkaart not valid), the museum is open daily from 11 am to 6 pm, also on Monday. Passe-partouts are for sale at the museum. |
