We’ve put together the finishing touches to the online programme for this year’s Iconic Houses Event on five Thursdays in September. The online modules of lectures and videos will bring you insights into Dutch residential architecture of the 20th century.

These are the themes and keynote speakers:

2 September: Health and Hygiene in the Modern Home - Beatriz Colomina
9 September: Palaces for the People - Valentijn Carbo
16 September: A Woman’s Place: Clients, Architects, Promoters - Alice T. Friedman
23 September: Experiments with Space - Anita Blom
30 September: Home as Self-Portrait: Architect's Houses - Gennaro Postiglione

These experts present the themed videos that accompany the lectures:

Curator Hetty Berens of the Sonneveld House will explain how improved hygiene made healthier homes;
Architectural Historian Valentijn Carbo will tell in the Model Home of Museum Het Schip what building for the masses in the 1920s and 50s looked like;
Natalie Dubois, curator of the Rietveld Schröder House informs us about the different roles that women played;
Robert von der Nahmer, owner of the Diagoonwoning unfolds about experiments with space, and
Natascha Drabbe, owner of the Van Schijndel House shines a light on how architects designed their ideal own homes.

We look forward to seeing you in September!

Adopt an Icon at Risk - PLEASE DONATE
Thanks to your donations, we can add new listings to our Icons at Risk Watch List. Worldwide, we have researched 42 houses by now and we need your help to also publish the houses that are on our radar and need more research. The Iconic Houses Foundation, like many  non-profits, is in a precarious position due to Covid. Please donate to help us continue putting these houses in the spotlight to (hopefully) help save them from demolition.
