Welcome to Paul Rudolph's Umbrella House in Sarasota!
Architecture Sarasota conducts once-a-month public tours of the Umbrella House, which Architectural Digest described as "One of the five most remarkable houses of the mid-20th century." The dominant feature of the aptly named house, its 'umbrella', was originally built of wood and used to shade the house from the intense Florida sun. It was lost in a storm in the 1960s. The full umbrella over the pool was restored in 2015.

Iconic Houses in the Netherlands - Berlage's Masterpiece
Impressing guests - that was the goal of the wealthy couple Anton and Helene Kröller-Müller for the hunting mansion that they commissioned from architect H.P. Berlage in early 1915. Helene was a very idiosyncratic woman with outspoken ideas about living. She left her own mark on the design and without her the mansion would not appear as it does today.

New Book on Maison Bernard
Antti Lovag (1920-2014) was a Hungarian architect, living in the south of France, who specialized in ‘bubble' houses and so-called ‘organic’ architecture. He built fewer than ten buildings. Maison Bernard, on the Côte d'Azur, is one of the finest examples and reflects the exciting relationship between the client, Pierre Bernard, and the architect. The book retraces this relationship, which shines through Yves Gellie's photographs.

When is a light fixture not just a light fixture? When it helps tell the story of a remarkable home designed and lived in by one of the 20th century's greatest architects. The 1951 Reunion House in LA was designed by Richard Neutra. In a partnership between the Neutra Institute and the USC School of Architecture's Heritage Conservation Program, the Reunion House was the field study project for the graduate-level Methods and Materials class. This episode gives you a new appreciation of the materials in the historic home - with a love story thrown in for fun.
