Family Homes for the Middle Class: A Crucial Task of Czech Functionalist Architecture
In his keynote address, leading Czech architecture expert Professor Vladimír Šlapeta describes how modern architecture of the late 19th and early 20th century, led by Jan Kotěra, Otto Wagner's student, quickly moved towards its own autonomous expression, reflecting both historic domestic traditions and global architectural tendencies.

The Genesis of Loos' Raumplan
Architect and Adolf Loos expert Professor Burkhardt Rukschcio's keynote explores the history of the restoration and reconstruction of the famous Looshaus in Vienna, completed in 1910 according to plans by Adolf Loos. Due to its simple, unornamented façade, the local press turned it into a veritable building scandal. It was carefully restored in 1989 under Rukschcio's direction.

Join us for an expert-led tour of the only Case Study House outside of Southern California. The remarkable CSH #26 in San Rafael was designed by architect Beverley David Thorne and completed in 1962. This Mid-Century Modern gem has had Alfonso Cordon and Cord Struckmann as its stewards since 2015. As private owners of the house, they make it available for photo shoots, stays and rentals.
