Welcome Álvaro Siza's Casa d'Abreu Neto!
Quatro Casas in Matosinhos, just 9 km from Porto, Portugal, was the first project built by Álvaro Siza (b. 1933) as a 21-year-old architecture student. He designed two detached and two semi-detached homes for members of the same family. Casa D'Abreu Neto has recently undergone preservation work, supervised by Siza himself. Now it's open to guests. Welcome Kettle's Yard House and Gallery, UK!
What makes Kettle’s Yard house special is the distinct and renowned arrangement by curator and collector of modern art, Jim Ede. Found objects and furniture fill the light-filled rooms of the four Victorian cottages that were converted in the 1950s into a house for Ede and his wife Helen. A substantial two level extension, designed by the modernist architects Leslie Martin and David Owers, opened in 1970.
