Op donderdag 20 september
organiseren Van Abbemuseum en stichting Dr. A.H. Heinekenprijs voor de Kunst een
symposium in het kader van de tentoonstelling 30 jaar Heinekenprijs voor de Kunst. U bent hierbij van harte welkom.
De geschiedenis en de toekomst
van de Heinekenprijs worden op deze dag in het bredere landschap van kunstmecenaat
geplaatst. Welke mogelijkheden en uitdagingen zijn er voor publiek-private samenwerkingen?
Hoe stellen verzamelaars zich op als nieuwe mecenas; en welke rol krijgt de
prijs door deze ontwikkelingen? Deze en andere vragen staan centraal tijdens presentaties
en discussies met experts uit het veld waarin we nadenken over de komende 30
jaar kunstmecenaat en publiek-privaat partnerschap.
Toen de prijs in
1988 – 30 jaar geleden - voor het eerst werd uitgereikt aan de schilder Toon
Verhoef was kunstmecenaat heel anders
dan nu. Begrippen als ‘crowdfunding’ bestonden nog niet, en internet stond nog
in zijn kinderschoenen. De kunstwereld was provinciaals vergeleken met de
globalisering nu. Ook de kunst veranderde van objectgericht naar procesgericht,
waarbij het eindproduct niet altijd materieel is. Met deze grote bewegingen in
het achterhoofd willen we denkbeeldige lijnen naar de toekomst trekken en
nadenken over hoe de prille initiatieven nu over 30 jaar mogelijk de norm zijn.

trajectories

On Thursday 20 September, the Van Abbemuseum and
foundation Dr. A. H. Heineken Prize for Art organize a symposium within the
framework of the 30 years Heineken Prize
for Art exhibition. You are cordially invited.
On this day, the history and future of the Heineken
Prize will be placed in the broader landscape of art philanthropy and private
support of art. What are the opportunities and challenges for public-private
partnerships? How do collectors establish themselves as a new patron and what
role does the prize receive in the light of all these developments? These questions
and others structure presentations and discussions with experts from the field
to think about the coming 30 years.
When the prize – 30 years ago – was awarded for the
first time in 1988 to painter Toon Verhoef, art patronage was very different
from today. Concepts such as ‘crowdfunding’ did not exist yet, and internet
was still in its infancy. The art world was provincial compared with the
current globalization of the sector. Art practice itself also changed from
object-oriented to process-oriented work, where the end product is not always
material in character. With these big shifts in mind, we want to move the
imaginary lines into the future and reflect on how new initiatives could
possibly in 30 years become the norm.
