2018 Conference - Iconic Houses in Latin America
'Iconic Houses in Latin America' is the second theme of our upcoming conference in New Canaan, and the new focus of our awareness-raising efforts. This newsletter highlights our keynote speaker and speakers from house museums in Argentina, Brazil and Mexico. Space is limited and events are selling out fast, so register today to secure your spot.
Welcome Casa del Puente!
Argentinian architect Amancio Williams designed Casa del Puente (1945) for his father, a musician and composer. It is now our first member house in Argentina. This small concrete building spans a creek on a site in Mar del Plata. Sadly, the interior was destroyed by a fire in 2004, and the house awaits restoration. However, even in its present state, it's an intriguing place to visit.
Keynote speaker Jorge Liernur on Latin American Modernism(s)
During our working visits to Argentina, Brazil and Mexico, we discovered the wonderful 20th-century house museums there and connected with the organizations that run them. Buenos Aires-based Jorge Francisco Liernur is an expert on Modernism in the Latin American context. “I believe that we architects have the main role in preserving architectural heritage.”
Renato Anelli on Lina Bo Bardi’s Casa de Vidro
Architect, planner and historian Renato Anelli is a board member of the Lina Bo Bardi Institute. He is currently overseeing the conservation management plan for the institute's Casa de Vidro, as part of the Getty Foundation’s Keeping It Modern initiative. Renato will be a speaker at our conference. We ask him about his progress in making the house a museum.
