Vanaf 25 juni: provocatieve kunst van Richard Bell

Op zaterdag 25 juni opent de tentoonstelling Dwarsverbinding: Richard Bell. Deze toonaangevende kunstenaar woont en werkt in Brisbane, Australië, en gebruikt zijn kunst als politiek instrument. Als afstammeling van een generatie Aboriginal activisten pleit hij met zijn grote statement-schilderijen en essays voor de emancipatie van alle First Nations gemeenschappen.

Het Eindhovens Dagblad bezocht A Lasting Truth Is Change: “Dit is een tentoonstelling barstensvol plezier. Een expositie die dingen anders doet en op onverwachte manieren kunst presenteert. Het lichaam van de bezoeker speelt daarbij een belangrijke rol: je kunt er klimmen op een klimrek of neervlijen op het oranje tapijt. Een tentoonstelling die lang blijft hangen.”

Ontmoetingen in De Huiskamer

woensdagen tussen 11 en 17 uur
De deur van De Huiskamer staat elke woensdag open voor ontmoetingen. Drink een kop thee en deel verhalen met iemand die zijn of haar thuisland heeft moeten ontvluchten. Dit project wordt gecoördineerd door Van Abbemuseum-medewerker Shafiq Omar, die jaren geleden zelf uit Afghanistan vluchtte.

Interview Charles Esche

Ammodo, partner van het Van Abbemuseum, sprak met directeur Charles Esche over het belang van het collectief, globale relaties en het gevaar van de utopie. Esche pleit voor een verschuiving van onze aandacht van het individu naar het collectief: “Mensen hebben elkaar altijd nodig gehad om iets te bereiken.”

Nu te zien op ons dak

Op het dak van het Van Abbemusem knipperen de letters van Erwin Thomasse’s kunstwerk langzaam aan en uit. Het ritme is afgeleid van een ademhalingstechniek om paniekaanvallen te bezweren.

On Saturday 25 June the exhibition Relinking: Richard Bell opens. This leading artist lives and works in Brisbane, Australia, and uses his art as a political vehicle. Growing out of a generation of Aboriginal activists, he uses his statement paintings and essays to advocate for the emancipation of all First Nations communities.

Encounters in The Living Room

Wednesdays from 11 am to 5 pm

Every Wednesday, the door of The Living Room is open for encounters. Drink a cup of tea and share stories with someone who has had to flee his or her homeland. This project is coordinated by Van Abbemuseum staff member Shafiq Omar, who fled his homeland Afghanistan years ago.

On display on our roof

On the roof of the Van Abbemusem you can see the letters of Erwin Thomasse's artwork slowly flash on and off. The rhythm is derived from a breathing technique used to ward off panic attacks.
